Wearing just your underwear outside and hangover beauty – which 2024 trends will you be following?
FANCY trying your hand at joggling, going out in your undies, or perhaps taking your Pooch for a doggy spa break?
It might sound wacky but according to trend forecasters these are just some of the crazes set to grip the UK and go mainstream over the next twelve months.
Laura Stott looks forward to some of the fads and fashions we can expect to encounter during 2024.
FOOD & DRINK
THINGS ON TOAST
According to supermarket Asda’s 2024 trends report scoffing toppings on toast will be a big foodie fad.
But think past boring old baked beans or millennial favourite avocado.
Purse-friendly ingredients will be at the core of bread-based gourmet creations.
Expect to see mushrooms, pulses, interesting cheeses and plenty of nuts and honey piled onto plates.
NOLO DRINKS
Booze free beverages will proliferate as many sippers continue choosing to shun alcohol.
The No and Low (NoLo) alcohol market is expected to grow 34 per cent by the end of the year so look out for loads more zero per cent bevvies to choose from in bars and on supermarket shelves.
VICTORIAN ICING
Lambeth cakes, decorated with an ornate piping style first made popular 200 years ago, are set to be the big baking trend.
Usually pastel, pretty and deliberately opulent slices of the vintage sponge and buttercream stunners, traditionally made with Royal Icing, will be everywhere from weddings to patisseries.
JUST PEACHY
Get ready for a proliferation of peaches.
Forecasters predict the flavour will be everywhere, from sweet snacks to savoury recipes, condiments and sauces and even in drinks.
Named as one of 2024’s Flavours of the Year by food industry experts, you can expect to encounter the fuzzy fruit in supermarkets and on multiple menus, in products from peach tea to jam, biccies and even on top of pizzas.
BEAUTY
KITTY CUT
Get ready to snip your locks into a sultry, glamorous Kitty Cut, declared the barnet du jour at hairdressers by Glamour Magazine.
Sleek but shaggy, this sexy, tousled and layered look is cut around the face but without being too short and rough.
HANGOVER BEAUTY
Originating in Japan and already loved by Gen Z, hangover beauty products, designed to perk you up post partying, or when you’ve overindulged, are set to go mainstream according to trend forecasters WGSN.
From creams to counteract the tired look caused by too many late nights to make up you can fall asleep in after socialising, even hangover hairsprays for when you can’t face the shower, this is judgment-free cosmetics for the masses.
PET SPAS
Fancy a paw-fect facial for your pup, or a massage for your moggy?
Wellness won’t just be for humans, pet spa treatments are set be a big trend too.
From mutt mud spas to kitty aromatherapy experiences, everything from one hour pampering sessions to whole spa weekend will be on offer for furry friends.
CHERRY COLA LIPS
Rich, deep and taking its influence from a classic American cherry soda, Cherry Cola lippie will be the colour to pucker up with.
The make-up trend started on TikTok with the big shiny, beverage-hued pouts – already seen on stars such as singer Lana Del Ray – set to break out into cosmetic counters.
FASHION
NO TROUSERS
Are you brave enough to go out in your undies?
As sent down the catwalk by top designers including Prada, Miu Miu and Loewe at New York fashion week (Miu Miu, Loewe) and already being embraced by stars including Bella Hadid, the take-off-your-trousers trend is official for Spring Summer.
Sparkly pants only are the outwear to be seen in – if you dare to bare.
THE NEW 90s
It’s time to dig out that 1990s nightie-style frock again as slip dresses are set for a big revival.
Featured in Celine’s collection on the catwalk, and perhaps still made most famous by Kate Moss in her supermodel heyday three decades ago, from lace trimmed to simple satin, they’ll be all over the high street.
APRONS
Get ready for some utilitarian chef chic.
Donning an apron over your outfit is another wacky fashion trend you’ll see people sporting, according to threads bible Vogue.
From butcher-style to waitress bibs and in fabrics ranging from leather to cutesy gingham the pop overs are a bold style statement, as seen on catwalks for trendsetters Christian Dior and Hermès.
FITNESS
COSY CARDIO
After going viral on TikTok, the Cosy Cardio exercise trend is here to get your heart rate up – just not too much.
Less sweaty and more soulful, the idea is exercise as an antidote to full-throttle gym sessions, instead you aim to work out gently in a calm and mindful way.
Think mood lighting, scented candles and any low-impact exercise at home that gets you moving.
Exactly what it says on the hashtag – cardio but make it cosy.
HOT GIRL WALKS
Another social media trend, with more than 600million views on TikTok, the hot girl walk is all about stylish strutting.
Put on your trendy workout gear for a four-mile outdoor march where – according to social media – you can only think about three things: What you’re grateful for, your goals, and how hot you are.
Not a stroll for wallflowers.
JOGGLING
A cross between jogging and juggling you might need to visit the circus for the year’s wackiest workout craze.
Embrace your inner clown joggling, where you run while contending with not dropping the coloured balls.
Already a competitive sport here, jogglers insist it’s good for balance, co-ordination and all-round fitness – and it’s set to go mainstream.
BASKETBALL
Fitness forecasters say 2024 will be the year of the slam dunk, with court sport basketball superseding rugby and cricket in popularity among Gen-Z players.
Research from UK team London Lions showed that 1.3million youngsters are already playing the game daily with it expected to boom in popularity even further.
HOME
CEILING WALLPAPER
Top style makers at Architectural Digest have declared the only place to wallpaper in the home is your ceilings.
From patterns to texture, bold colours to OTT murals expect to see this Renaissance style trend everywhere – especially on your Instagram grid.
CANDY CANE STRIPES
Sweet, colourful barbershop stripes will be one of the most affordable and accessible interior design trends.
You’ll find strips of bright primary colours everywhere to accent around your pad, on fabrics from cushions, towels and blankets, even featuring on stair runners, furniture and crockery.
PEACH FUZZ
Colour gurus Pantone have declared it’s shade Peach Fuzz 13-1023 the hue of 2024 so you can expect to feel the influence of this warm, comforting, pastel everywhere, including fashion and interiors.
Design experts say it “resonates with compassion”’. Plus it looks pretty too.
