Troopers fatally shoot suspect on New York State Thruway in Rockland County: officials
HILLBURN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Troopers shot and killed a suspect who opened fire during a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway in Rockland County Wednesday, officials said.
The shooting happened around 2:55 p.m. in Hillburn on the southbound side of the New York State Thruway, just south of exit 15B.
The troopers stopped the suspect's vehicle after it was identified as being connected to a homicide investigation, according to New York State Police.
During the traffic stop, the suspect opened fire at the two troopers, officials said. The troopers returned fire and killed the suspect, according to officials.
One trooper sustained minor injuries, while the other was unharmed, officials said.
Traffic is delayed for about 5 miles in the area of the shooting due to the investigation, authorities said.
