Chen starts year on a promising note

Manila, January 8: 15-year-old Chen Xingtong enjoyed a promising start to her new season with a fourth-placed finish at the Philippines National Stroke Play Championship that concluded on Sunday.

Chen, who clinched her first international victory at the 8th Peugeot Selangor Amateur Open golf championship last December, posted rounds of 80, 76, 72 and 75 to end the week at the Luistia Golf and Country Club three shots back of local champion, Junia Louise Gabasa with her four-day total of 15-over-par 303.

Jillian Kuk also secured a top-10 finish with her 314 total while Troy Storm closed with his week’s best score of 70 to sign off in a share of 11th place with Thailand’s Thanattasorn Supinraj in the men’s division which was won by Philippines’ Jet Hernandez.

Aaron Wee was, meanwhile, forced to withdraw after the third round due to illness after previously carding rounds of 81, 83 and 86.
