Baby’s body found in trash bin near Hollywood apartment building
Hollywood police are investigating the death of an infant whose body was found Monday morning in a box that was tossed in a trash bin outside an apartment building.
Police are looking for the public’s help and initially released no information other than the location of the incident in the 1700 block of Rodman Street.
Workers for Infinity Roofing found the baby’s body before 8 a.m. as they were preparing to replace the building’s roof, said company owner John Mitala. “Somebody happened to notice the box in the dumpster that didn’t belong to us,” he said. When they opened it, they saw the baby and immediately called police.
“The guys were shook,” Mitala said. “No one expects something like that. It’s really affected the entire company.”
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Hollywood Police Department at 954-764-4357(HELP) or 954-967-4567. Tipsters can e-mail or text to hollywoodpdtips@hollywoodfl.org. Information can also be given to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 (TIPS) or browardcrimestoppers.org.
