Man found dead outside Wethersfield apartment fell from third-story window. Death ruled suicide

A man found dead outside an apartment building in Wethersfield last week died by suicide, police said.

An autopsy conducted over the weekend by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner concluded 46-year-old Steven Motyka died from blunt force trauma to the head after a fall from a third-story open window, according to the Wethersfield Police Department.

Motyka was found Friday outside an apartment building at 966 Silas Deane Highway after police responded to the area shortly after 6:30 p.m. on the report of an injured person in the roadway, police said. Officers were directed to the driveway of the complex, where they found the 46-year-old unresponsive with apparent trauma to the head.

Medics responded and tended to Motyka before he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Members of the Wethersfield Police Department Detective Bureau responded to the scene to assume the investigation and were assisted by the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office and the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Unit.

Wethersfield police looking into the untimely death said a preliminary investigation turned up nothing suspicious and there was no reason to believe it presented any threat to the public.
