10 biggest surprises in SAG Awards TV nominations: ‘The Gilded Age’, Tony Shalhoub …
In typical fashion, Gold Derby users accurately predicted most of this year’s SAG Awards nominations for TV with an impressive match rate of 75% across eight categories (not including Best Stunt Ensemble). However, some of the lucky nominees announced on January 10 were either somewhat or extremely unexpected. Scroll down to see the biggest surprises, and check out the complete list of nominees here.
Overall, two casts and eight individual performers stunned us by landing in this year’s SAG TV lineups. We thought the respective comedic and dramatic ensembles of “Jury Duty” and “Yellowjackets” would be nominated for the first time each, but they were passed over in favor of the groups from “Barry” and “The Gilded Age.” The former, which concluded last May, now has a perfect cast nominations record for all four of its seasons.
Also welcomed back in spite of us believing they wouldn’t be were dramatic actor Brian Cox (“Succession”) – knocking out his onscreen son, Jeremy Strong – and comedic performers Alex Borstein (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) and Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso”). Given the fact that 11 of this year’s 20 continuing series nominees bid farewell to their characters in 2023, those three receiving goodbye hugs does make a great deal of sense.
Below are the year’s top television snubs, based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby’s Experts, Editors, Top 24 Users, All-Star Users and all Users. The 30th annual SAG Awards ceremony will take place Saturday, February 24 in Los Angeles and stream live on Netflix.
