The film “May December” also took a hit as it missed out on potential bids for supporting actress Julianne Moore and supporting actor Charles Melton. The latter had been on a winning streak with critics groups for his acclaimed turn in the Todd Haynes picture, but lost the Golden Globe last weekend to Robert Downey Jr.
Other top contenders who were surprisingly not cited include Fantasia Barrino (“The Color Purple”), Leonardo DiCaprio (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) and Mark Ruffalo (“Poor Things”).
