I caught mother-in-law trying to breastfeed my baby in the worst way – it’s ruined my relationship with my husband & son
BEING a new mum can be challenging at the best of times, so spare a thought for the woman who found her mother-in-law attempting to breastfeed her newborn.
Horrified by what she saw, the woman has claims that it has ‘ruined’ her relationship with her son – and her husband.
Taking to Reddit, , she revealed that her relative tried to interfere after she struggled to produce enough milk for her son.
“A few months ago, I gave birth to my firstborn and was so set on exclusively breastfeeding him. I found out he wasn’t getting what he needed from me and we needed formula,” she explained: “I was so sad, not to mention all the opinions i was getting from other ppl (my MIL).”
Rather than supporting the new mum, her older relative decided to take matters in to her own hands – literally!
The post continued: “Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, I let my husband and his mother watch my son so I could get a couple hours of alone time, just to find a picture on his phone the other night of HER ATTEMPTING TO BREASTFED HIM!!!”
Recalling the shocking discovery, the anonymous user revealed that she had no idea that this had happened as her in law had not offered to help the baby.
Even more shockingly, the older woman had stayed with the family for two months which made the new mum question whether this happened on mutiple occasions.
Understandably, the Redditor said she had been ‘deeply disturbed’ by what she saw and asked: “Does anyone know if this is illegal or something i could charge or do anything with? [I] feel my relationship with my son is nearly ruined just from her.”
Almost immediately, the post began to go viral with users questioning whether they could continue with the marriage after this.
“I know you love your husband, but this is soooo wrong. If you’re going to try to make your marriage work, (I don’t think I could), he definitely needs some counselling,” commented one concerned user.
They added: “And MIL never gets to see babe again. I am so sorry!!!!”
Others were also shocked that the husband initially accepted the situation, with another saying: “My brain is having a hard time comprehending this. Where in this freaking crazy world would a person think this was acceptable…definitely get an attorney to divorce.”
Some even wanted the new mum to contact the police over the issue, with a third stating: “Call the non emergency police line and ask what your course of action should be. Forward yourself the picture and never leave them alone with your child again.”
They then pointedly said: “Also find a new husband.”
Whilst the husband might not have initially had a problem with his mum, the Redditor later revealed that he had major regrets about the situation.
“I’ve talked to my husband (not very nicely I must add) and he claims he sees the wrong in it now and is apparently distraught over the situation now… idk how much of that I believe,” she admitted in a later comment.
We wonder how we would have delt with the same situation.
