Moment lorry driver miraculously escapes death after crashing on motorway

Extraordinary footage shows the moment a lorry driver escaped with just minor injuries after crashing on a busy motorway.

A tyre on the HGV burst as the man was driving along the M6 yesterday, causing the vehicle to plough though a barrier and plunge into a ditch.

In CCTV footage, the vehicle can been seen veering across the inside lane onto the hard shoulder before smashing through a fence, sending debris across the carriageway.

The driver was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital with injuries not believed to be serious.

The accident happened between junctions 6 and 7 near Birmingham at 2.45pm.

The footage was shared on X by the Central Motorway Police Group.

A spokesperson for CMPG wrote: ‘Yesterday, another HGV leaving the motorway just past Junction 7 of the M6 South, as a result of a tyre blow out.

‘Driver was very fortunate to get out alive with minor injuries.

‘Please check your tyres regularly for yours and everyone else’s safety!’

One X user wrote in response: ‘He’s lucky to be alive from looking at that video.’

Another added: ‘Great footage showing the importance of good tyre safety and the immense power that these lorries travel with when out of control.’

Last year a lorry was left hanging precariously over the edge of a bridge after a crash on the M1.

Pictures showed the three rear wheels of the HGV hanging off the edge, while its container is balanced at a stomach-turning angle.
