Anne Hathaway's Low-Key Marriage to Adam Shulman Was on Display During Rare Red Carpet Night Out

It was date night on Thursday for Anne Hathaway and her husband, Adam Shulman. The very private duo made it a very public night at the National Board of Review Gala in New York City where they made a glamorous appearance. 

The rare outing, where the 41-year-old actress presented an award, shows how the couple of 11 years cherishes their home life. They are parents to sons, Jonathan, 7, and Jack, 4. Last night, the kids stayed home, and it was the parents’ night out on the town! Hathaway wore a Giorgio Armani Fall/Winter 2023 black sequin and embroidered gown with a plunging sweetheart neckline. She paired off the elegant look by wearing her hair down in gentle waves and added a bit of sparkle with diamond-drop earrings and a set of bangles on her wrist. Shulman kept it simple with a classic black suit with a dark tie — he looked handsome.

Hathaway described her husband as “a good man” to Glamour in 2012 just after they got married. “He’s beyond intelligent. He loves fearlessly,” she gushed. “His beliefs are beautiful. He’s my best friend. I love him. I just feel that I have the greatest husband in the world for me.” Over a decade later, the Princess Diaries star echoed a similar sentiment on The Drew Barrymore Show in early December where she admitted they have matching tattoos. 

“I think it’s a little bit the luck of the draw, but we’re really just lucky that we keep growing together,” she told Barrymore. “But we have this thing — it’s actually a tattoo, and the idea is that individually, we’re whole, but together, we’re more. And so I think it’s just that thing about I don’t expect him to complete me, and he doesn’t expect me to complete him.”

Hathaway loves that she’s her “own person” and “he’s his own person” because that gives them the breathing room to have their separate identities — it’s likely why they keep much of their marriage out of the press. “We believe we make each other better and this union is something we both want to participate in,” she summed up. It sounds like a match made in heaven!
