IND vs AFG 2nd T20I: Rohit Sharma achieves an elusive feat as the Indian Captain appearing for his 150th T20I

For Indian captain Rohit Sharma, the second Twenty20 International against Afghanistan and India is particularly important. Rohit became the first player in T20I history to surpass 150 matches when he returned to the shortest format after a break of more than 14 months. Since leading India in the T20 World Cup in November 2022, the seasoned Indian batter had not participate in the T20I format. An interesting component to Rohit’s return to the format was that his comeback occurred during the World Cup year. It’s important to remember that the matches of World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States and the West Indies in June 2024.

It’s interesting to note that Virat Kohli, is the second Indian with the most T20I appearances (116), he made his return in the shortest format on Sunday.

Due to personal reasons, Kohli was unable to participate in the first game against Afghanistan; however, on Sunday, he replaced Tilak Varma in the starting lineup. Being the only player to score more than 4000 runs in T20Is, Kohli is now the format’s top run scorer. His presence in the T20I series gives the Indian team and team preparations for the forthcoming T20 World Cup a significant boost. He has amassed 4008 runs in 116 appearances.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl in the second T20I in Indore. Afghanistan was all out for 172 and in the second innings the Indian Captain could not sustain the bowling attack and went for a duck in his 150th T20I match.
