I found the perfect anti-draught device that’ll keep your home so cosy as winter storms hit and it costs just a tenner

TEMPERATURES are set to plunge yet again tonight, with snow forecast in many parts of the UK.

One US woman who claims she can winterproof her home with just two Amazon products though – and they cost just over a tenner.

Whilst you might associate South Dakota with landmarks like Mount Rushmore and incredible national parks, the state also has a reputation for harsh winters.

As there are frequent blizzards in the winter though, residents have become used to weatherproofing their homes against freezing temperatures.

With snow currently falling across the state, property expert Megan Van De Boe decided to share her hacks for insulating her home.

Taking to Tiktok, the mum-of-one revealed that she had previously struggled with draughts and told fans: “One thing I have learnt living in South Dakota is that it is windy up here and that it comes right through my door cracks.”

Rather than hiring an expensive handyman to fix this, the influencer prepared her home for winter by ‘weather stripping’ her door.

Despite the tongue-in-cheek term, the working mum made a serious point about knowing how to correctly line your external doors with draught excluder tape.

Also known as ‘stripping’, this essential winter buy can be easily installed as it is layered with a strong adhesive for easy application.

Megan even explained how quickly she’d added it to her home, first cleaning the external door with rubbing alcohol and then applying the draught excluder on either side.

However, it wasn’t the only heating hack that she had for those feeling left out in the cold.

Keen to keep the cold air out as much as possible, the US influencer then added silicone tape to the internal side of her door to create a seal.

Demonstrating how she’d installed the peel-and-stick insulation, it was clear how impressed she was and even dubbed the 3M product ‘magical’ in her viral video.

Urging viewers to also apply it to the top and bottom of their doors, she said: “This is just to help winterise your home, keep the warm air in and save some money on that heating bill.”

Having learned how time and cost-effective this hack could be, the mum said: “I highly recommend doing this at least once a year.”

This hack is a must for everyone with a drafty home, as experts at the Energy Saving Trust claim that properties can lose up to 45 per cent of their heat due to poor insulation.

With the average heating bill now a staggering £853.30 per year, many of us can’t afford to miss out on all that extra heat.

In fact, Energy Saving Trust says you could save over £45 per year on your heating just by adding insultation to your doors and windows.

Even better, you can find both of these saving items on Amazon for less as a 3m roll of draught excluder tape is just £4.99 online.

Meanwhile, you can pick up the same 3M silicone tape as the influencer, with an 8m roll for only £6.78 – meaning you can insultate your home for just over a tenner.

It might still be freezing outside, but at least you’ll keep cosy at home this winter.
