Code red for the entire Luxembourg, avoid travel if possible
On Wednesday, a precipitation front will sweep across our country, bringing the possibility of ice in the extreme south and snow in the remainder of the southern half, extending to the centre and north-east. Widespread hazardous road conditions are anticipated, prompting the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) to strongly recommend avoiding travel. Code red has been issued for the country of Luxembourg. The snowfall is expected to be particularly intense south of Sambre and Meuse, especially in the afternoon. In the far south, the snow will transition quickly into sleet or a mix of freezing rain and snow. From Hainaut to the Kempen, snowfall is anticipated later in the afternoon. North of the Poperinge-Turn wood line, snowfall may be more limited, but a snow layer could still accumulate. Coastal areas are likely to experience little or no precipitation. Maximum temperatures will be slightly positive on the coast, around or slightly below freezing elsewhere, and up to 3 degrees in Belgian Lorraine. In the morning, the RMI raised the slipperiness alarm level to code red in the province of Luxembourg, the highest level.
