RURAL DEVELOPMENT: LASG BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF IJAKE ROAD IN OTO-AWORI LCDA
… 400-Metre Road To Be Completed In Six Months
As part of the efforts of the State Government to improve road networks in rural communities, reduce travel time and engender ease of movement for vehicles and residents, the Special Adviser to Mr. Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, on Tuesday announced the commencement of the construction of Ijake Road in Oto-Awori LCDA, Ojo, Lagos State.
The Special Adviser disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting and the flag-off ceremony of the construction of the 400 metres Ijake Road, Oto Awori LCDA. He assured that the project is expected to be completed in six months, upon commencement, adding that construction would commence in February.
He reiterated that the project is part of the efforts of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to fulfilling the T.HE.M.E.S. Plus Agenda of his administration, which is to make Lagos State a 21st Century Economy, thereby reducing rural-urban migration and extending the dividend of democracy to the grassroots communities across the State.
Dr. Agbaje urged members of the Community to ensure they collaborate with the contractor to ensure the safety of the workers. He advised them to also take ownership of the project upon completion by protecting and guarding the projects judiciously.
The Special Adviser added that the Contractor has also promised to engage youths in the community who are qualified and willing to work, either as skilled or unskilled workforce.
He assured members of the community that the road project is one of the many developmental projects that the community will witness under the administration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, earlier in her welcome address, applauded Mr. Governor for his continuous effort in ensuring that the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda is felt in the length and breadth of Lagos State, especially in the rural communities.
She congratulated members of the Community on the Ijake Road Project approved by Mr. Governor, urging them to partner with the contractor in ensuring a peaceful work environment that would engender timely delivery of the project.
The Chairman, Oto-Awori LCDA, Prince Musibau Adekunle Ashafa in his remarks thanked Mr. Governor for remembering Oto-Awori in the implementation of his T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.
In the same vein, His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Oba Ikuyamiku Ilemobade Aina, the Oloto of Ato-Awori commended Mr. Governor for ensuring that the dividend of democracy reaches the grassroots. He also appealed to the Government to help the community with other developmental projects such as rural electrification and potable water.
Speaking on behalf of the members of the community, the CDA Chairman, Mr. Olusegun Bello assured Mr. Governor that the community will show its appreciation by ensuring that the project is meticulously guarded upon commissioning.
Also present at the stakeholders’ meeting were the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Bolaji Kayode Robert, Community Development Associations, Community Leaders, Youth Leaders, Religious Bodies, Market Leaders and residents of the community.
