Blanket of snow across northern France stirs up travel disruptions

Towns across France woke up to a blanket of fresh, white snow on Thursday - with the cold snap prompting weather authorities to issue an orange alert for 25 departments in the north and centre. Transport was either disrupted or cancelled in many areas.

Some 5cm of snow fell in Normandy with peaks of 15cm in harder-hit areas, while up to 4cm was dumped in the Paris region.
