Catch up with Callum: Dunfermline Athletic v Queen’s Park Preview

0

Queen’s Park travel to KDM Group East End Park on Saturday to play Dunfermline Athletic in the cinch Championship.

With both clubs no longer having an interest in the Scottish Cup this was an opportunity to play the game that was frozen off in early December.

It is the second match in charge for recently appointed Head Coach Callum Davidson however it is the second game of 2024 against the Fifers after Queen’s Park ended a lengthy wait for a win with a 2-1 success on January 5.
Callum’s first game in charge saw Queen’s build on their win over Dunfermline and defeat Raith Rovers 2-1 at Stark’s Park and complete the set of taking points off every Championship side this season.

After a short stay at the foot of the table Queen’s Park are now up to eighth and a win at KDM Group East End Park could see another move upwards with a three-point haul seeing both points equal on 23 points.

A seven-goal success would be needed to move Queen’s Park above their hosts so it would be fair to say that winning and moving level on points would be an acceptable outcome.

Callum spoke to QPTV and he covered:

– The excitement of last weekend cooled by the weather.
– Winning but looking for improvements
– Winter training
– Wishing it was a Scottish Cup tie!
– Surprises in Team Selection.

The cinch Championship so far
Queen’s Park are now up to five wins this season with three picked up in their first three games and two in their last two.

One interesting stat is that Dunfermline were the first team to win at Hampden this season against Queen’s Park with a 2-0 September success and they were also the first team Queen’s Park defeated at Hampden this season when The Spiders won 2-1 recently.

Dunfermline have won three times at home this season and three times away with their last success on their own turf being a 3-0 win over Arbroath in November. That was followed up by a 2-1 win at Airdrieonians however since then a combination of injuries and postponed games has seen two draws and three defeats in five outings.

Cameron Bruce and Sean Welsh’s first goals for Queen’s last week took their first team goalscorers in the Championship so far this season up to nine with 11 Dunfermline players netting on league duty so far.

Squad News
Callum Hapsell and Mackenzie Carse have been recruited by the Spiders this week however Charlie Fox, Grant Savoury and Liam McLeish continue to be absent due to injury.
