Journalist reveals Spurs still expect 23-year-old to come good at the club
The Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are not in a hurry to offload Ryan Sessegnon as many at the North London club still have high hopes for the youngster.
Sessegnon was seen as a major coup by Spurs when the North London club landed him in a £25m deal from Fulham back in 2019.
However, barring a spell under Antonio Conte, the left-back has struggled to establish himself in Tottenham’s starting eleven and has not been helped by his constant injury troubles.
The 23-year-old was on the treatment table for the entirety of the first half of this season and it is only in the last few weeks that Ange Postecoglou has had a closer look at the defender.
Some outlets over the last two weeks have indicated that Tottenham are open to offloading Sessegnon this month since the player is not considered a key part of Postecoglou’s plans (Football Insider).
Tottenham will remain patient with Ryan Sessegnon
However, McGrath has said that those at Hotspur Way have not yet given up on the idea that the Cottagers academy graduate could come good.
The journalist said on The Last Word on Spurs podcast: “With Sessegnon, I mentioned this to you off air, there was a bit of interest from France, but it’s not materialised, when he came into senior football at 16 he was so talented at football.
“Nobody has said to me that they think his Spurs career is over it’s not ‘what are we going to do with Ryan Sessegnon?’ I still believe that people think there’s talent there to be used.”

Sessegnon is evidently not a good fit for Postecoglou’s system as he lacks the technical quality to handle the ball in tight areas but he certainly has the raw materials to be a decent Premier League player.
That is why Spurs will likely loan him out this window so that he can prove himself in the top flight and perhaps attract more suitors ahead of next summer.
