CT shoplifting suspect arrested on weapons charges after police find BB guns, machete in vehicle

A man was arrested with multiple BB guns that resembled real firearms and a machete in his vehicle after police in Milford responded to a shoplifting complaint Wednesday.

Officers were called to the Dick’s Sporting Goods on Boston Post Road just before 7 p.m. after an employee of the store reported seeing a known shoplifter acting suspiciously, according to the Milford Police Department. Responding officers learned the suspect had left the area in a vehicle when police arrived.

An officer then spotted a vehicle matching the description in a nearby Walmart parking lot, where police initiated a motor vehicle stop, police said.

An officer noticed a weapon resembling an AR-style rifle in the vehicle and removed the suspect from inside. He was identified as 40-year-old Oscar Rosado-Nazario of Bridgeport.

As Rosado-Nazario was removed from the vehicle, police said they noticed a black handgun sitting on the driver’s seat. A machete and narcotics were also reportedly found in the vehicle, according to police.

The rifle and handgun were later found to be BB guns without any markings to indicate they were replicas or facsimile firearms, according to police.

Rosado-Nazario was taken into custody and charged with three counts of weapons in a motor vehicle, a single count of possession of narcotics and multiple motor vehicle charges, police said. He posted a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court on Feb. 14.
