Three hunters charged with baiting deer in Greene County
CAIRO, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- According to the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), three hunters in the Town of Cairo were charged with hunting with bait. Another person was charged with failing to wear hunter orange in the same party.
Environmental Conservation Police (ECOs) responded to a tree stand on State Island which both had fresh piles of corn on the ground in front of them. ECOs received a tip about the baiting incident.
A third member of the hunting party was found hunting over bait on a neighboring property. Additional ECOs were brought in to gather evidence and officers charged all three with hunting with the aid of pre-established bait.
One of the hunters was charged with maintaining a tree stand on State Island without displaying owner information. Another was charged with failing to wear hunter orange.
