Winter weather advisory: 1-3 inches of snow, windy, cold weekend

0

Columbus and Central Ohio Weather

A winter weather advisory is in effect through Friday night, and the southeast and northeast corners of the state will be under a winter storm warning until midday Saturday.

Snow showers will produce only a dusting of snow, associated with a southern disturbance. However, a stronger system will move from the southern Plains to the Ohio Valley early Friday, bringing a general snowfall of 1 to 3 inches.

Snow will taper off to flurries Friday afternoon, and winds will increase behind the departing low-pressure area, gusting to 25 mph, with a wind chill falling to the single digits.

A reinforcing surge of frigid air will lower temperatures even more to start the weekend. Wind chills Friday night and Saturday will plunge to between -10 and -15 degrees along and northwest of the I-71 corridor.

High temperatures on Saturday will only make it to the teens, under mostly cloudy skies, with scattered flurries. Winds will gradually diminish late in the day.

Sunday will be dry and cold, after a frigid start,, with morning lows in the single digits.

Look for much milder conditions next week, with rain likely Tuesday and Wednesday.
