EUNICE, La. (KLFY) -- A Eunice man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Acadia Parish, authorities said.

The crash claimed the life of John C. Ledoux Jr., 79, of Eunice.  

Shortly after 1 a.m. Friday, Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a single-vehicle crash on La. Highway 3116 near Donna Lane just south of the Eunice city limits.

Police said the crash occurred as Ledoux was driving a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander southbound on La. 3116. For reasons still under investigation, the Outlander exited the roadway to the left, entered a ditch and struck a culvert.

Ledoux was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office.   

Impairment is unknown, and a toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.  

Louisiana State Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that wearing a seat belt is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself from injury or death in a crash. Always buckle up before starting your vehicle, and ensure that all passengers in the vehicle do the same. 

This was the first fatal crash Troop I has investigated in 2024.
