AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Fire Department responded to a bridge fire downtown Friday morning.
Crews extinguished a trash fire underneath a pedestrian bridge in the 600 block of West Third Street. Officials said the wooden bridge was over a homeless encampment.
The area was near the Third Street Railroad Trestle, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.

AFD said the bridge was temporarily closed but is now reopened.
As of 9:45 a.m., the cause of the fire was undetermined.
