Man receives 70 years in prison for multiple child sex crimes

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A man charged with multiple counts of child sex crimes in Travis County was sentenced to serve 70 years in state prison on Jan. 12.

According to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, 42-year-old Sergio Nava-Sanchez was charged with the continuous sexual abuse of a child, indecency with a child by contact and attempted sexual assault of a child.

Nava-Sanchez was arrested by the Austin Police Department in November 2021, and he was charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child for offenses committed between 2016 and 2020.

“Our office is grateful to our dedicated staff and law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly to hold the defendant accountable and seek justice for the victim,” Travis County District Attorney José Garza said in a release. “We hope this verdict brings closure and peace to the victim and their family.”
