Southeast Asia has emerged as a hotspot for plastic pollution in recent years, exacerbated by rapid urbanisation and a lack of proper waste management infrastructure. In Thailand alone, about 2 million tonnes of plastic waste is generated annually -- of which only a quarter is recycled.
