As Camilla left the private hospital this afternoon she told reporters: “He’s fine, thank you.”

The Monarch, 75, appeared in good spirits as he was driven to the central London clinic this morning.

He is understood to have visited the Princess of Wales, who is there recovering from an abdominal surgery, before he had his op.

The mum-of-three, 42, is expected to continue her recovery at the clinic for the next few days.

She is “unlikely” to return to public duties until after Easter.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak earlier wished Charles the “very best” for his treatment and a “speedy recovery” afterwards, a Downing Street spokeswoman said.

The King was diagnosed with the benign condition on January 17 while staying at Birkhall, Aberdeenshire.

He went for a check-up after experiencing symptoms.

His Majesty is understood to have shared the news to encourage other men to get themselves checked.

It is not known how long Charles will spend in hospital or the exact nature of his treatment.

His engagements have been postponed for “a short period of recuperation”, Buckingham Palace said last week.

FIT FOR A KING

What is The London Clinic?

Opened in 1932, rooms boast an electronic patient-controlled bed, en-suite bathroom, a safety deposit box, and a TV.

The hospital sees around 23,000 inpatients a year, with a further 110,000 outpatients.

It can reportedly treat different 155 conditions, with hundreds of treatments, tests and scans available.

The building at 20 Devonshire Place has seven main operating theatres and three additional theatres.

It has previously admitted Prince Phillip and Princess Margaret while ex-PM and current Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron was born there in 1966.

Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet was arrested at the hospital in October 1998 for crimes against humanity.

A palace spokesman said today: “The King was this morning admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment.

“His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”

This week, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, was revealed to be the third royal facing a health scare.

She has been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer.

It was discovered during treatment for breast cancer, which she was diagnosed with last summer.

She said: “Naturally another cancer diagnosis has been a shock, but I’m in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support.”

A spokesman for the duchess said she will undergo further investigations into the melanoma.
