Russell Sage hosting free community justice workshop

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Russell Sage College in Albany will be presenting a free-to-attend workshop discussing community-based justice and alternatives to incarceration. The event will be held on January 27.

The workshop will host panel discussions featuring speakers such Albany County District Attorney David Soares, covering topics ranging from substance abuse and mental health to bystander intervention and community re-entry after incarceration. The program commemorates the launch of the school's new Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Community Corrections degree.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop's full itinerary is detailed below:

Community-Based Justice Workshop Schedule

  • Welcome and Introduction - 9 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
  • Alternatives to Incarceration - 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
  • Mental Health and Substance Use Treatment - 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Victim and Survivor Impact - 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Re-entry after Incarceration - 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Bystander Intervention Training in Schools - 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
  • Closing - 2:45 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The Russell Sage Albany campus is located at 140 New Scotland Avenue, with the event being held in room 224 of the Kahl Campus Center. Online registration for the free workshop is required, and can be completed on the college's website.
