M Badrappan, a school dropout from Dasampalayam village, was captivated by a folk-dance performance of Harichandra Kummi. He became a prominent student of Doddanna Gowder, mastering Valli oyil kummi and teaching it to hundreds. Recognized by the central government, Badrappan taught women Valli Kummi and continues to promote the folk art.
