We transformed a classic Land Rover Defender into a tiny home on wheels
ONE crafty couple have turned their Land Rover into a camper and are now holidaying in it.
Yorkshire couple Matt and Jess have converted the 1988 Defender into a DIY camper they can sleep and cook in.
The 1998 Defender has had a number of issues during the conversion, such as leaks[/caption] Jess sits in the converted back of the Land Rover[/caption] A gas cooking stove can be slotted into the fold-down table on the inside of the door[/caption]The pair plan to travel around the UK in it first and then take it abroad.
But, on their TikTok account The Big Green Rover, the couple also post about all the issues they’ve had with converting an old car.
The motor has had the back seats removed and replaced with a couch that converts into a bed and a storage area.
Inside the back door, they are also able to fit a burner on which they can cook their evening meal.
Storage has also been built around the top of the back area, allowing the pair to fit small things like books or beach equipment/
But, it hasn’t all been easy, with the Rover needing repairs, such as fixing leaks.
One fan said: “At least u have somewhere to sleep when it brakes down.”
Matt made the couch-bed by building a zip design where the prongs could be pulled out and placed against each other to stay strong.
One fan liked the design: “Great pull out bed structure fair play enjoy.”
Another said: “Absolutely love this! you’ve done an amazing job!”
“That’s a really great fit out,” said a third.
In one clip they reveal their top five tips for anyone interested in doing their own motorhome conversion.
They advise: Planning well, installing insulation, building plenty of storage, doing work yourself to save cash, and enjoying the process.
Another person who converted their Land Rover Defender planned a once-in-a-lifetime trip across Africa.
Named ‘The Beast’, her Land Rover Defender is fit to live in after seven months of conversion.
Another person who converted his Land Rover says he now pays no rent, saves £900 a month and will be able to buy his own home in months.
George Burke, 28, from Hereford, bought the ex-RAF Series 3 Land Rover for £5,500 and spent £4,000 on the conversion.
Another woman has converted a van into a much more glam saying the key to make the conversion was setting a budget.
But for Tory, the most challenging step is figuring out how to make money while travelling.
