West Brom 0 Wolves 2

There’s an elephant in the room.

The violence that marred our first win at the Hawthorns since 1996 was as disgraceful as it was so depressingly predictable.

Stupid and pointlesss

Seriously, what is wrong with some people?

Modern-day hooliganism might be far removed from the dark days of the 1970s, but the ugly scenes emanating from the Birmingham Road end proved it hasn’t been entirely consigned to the past.

Even with Tommy Doyle having to duck the bottles at the other end, it was still startling to see the players go off and talk of abandonment.

Nobody wants complete sanitisation of the sport – I enjoy bantering with opposition fans as much as anyone – but groups of sniffed up buffoons being allowed to act as they please on the terraces shouldn’t be allowed to ruin it for everyone else.

Despite all that unpleasantness, it’s bloody great to end our Hawthorns hoodoo.

We were miles off our best today, and credit should go to Carlos Corberan for his game plan. We were fortunate that Albion’s perilous financial position means they can’t afford a centre-forward of the ilk of an Odemwingie, Phillips, or Taylor. We’d have certainly been punished by a more formidable side.

Credit to the lads for getting the job done. In the end, it was our two star attackers who won the fixture with moments of individual quality.

I thought Cunha was particularly excellent in the second-half.

A tie against an in-form Brighton isn’t exactly the sweetest of rewards, but our formidable home form gives us cause for optimism.
