How to watch ‘The Zone of Interest’
One of the year’s most unconventional films, “The Zone of Interest” stars Christian Friedel and Sandra Hüller as a Nazi couple raising their children next door to Auschwitz. Written and directed by Jonathan Glazer (“Under the Skin”), the movie is a loose adaptation of Martin Amis‘ novel of the same name. It received five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. “The Zone of Interest” is playing in select theaters across the U.S., including AMC, Regal, and Alamo Drafthouse (check local listings). After winning the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2023, the movie opened in limited release on December 15. It has grossed $1.6 million domestically thus far.
Will “The Zone of Interest” win an Oscar?
Because of its tough subject matter, “The Zone of Interest” was seen as an awards-season question mark until it received three Golden Globe nominations, including Best Film Drama. It has also nabbed nine BAFTA nominations and a bundle of critics’ prizes. It was named one of the year’s five best international films by the National Board of Review.
On Tuesday, “The Zone of Interest” received five Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Director (Glazer), Best Adapted Screenplay (Glazer), Best International Feature Film, and Best Sound. It stands a solid chance of winning the international-film trophy. Hüller was nominated for her role in this year’s other foreign darling, “Anatomy of a Fall.”
