Alasdair Gold reveals why transfer target snubbed Spurs move

Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Antonio Nusa has snubbed a move to Ange Postecolou’s side in favour of a switch to Brentford.

Alasdair Gold have revealed in his column for Football.London that Tottenham were unable to offer the 18-year-old any assurances over a first-team role while the Bees have assured the Club Brugge player that he is guaranteed a role within Thomas Frank’s side next season.

Nusa and his representatives are said to have been of the opinion that a move to a club of Tottenham’s size was too big a step at this early stage of his career and a move to Brentford instead would be in the best interests of his development.

Spurs miss out on Antonio Nusa

Tottenham had been heavily linked with a move for Nusa in recent weeks with TEAMtalk having claimed earlier this week that the North Londoners were hoping to wrap up a deal with talks having been at an advanced stage.

Spurs now have a matter of days to get any new transfer deals over the line before the window closes at midnight on Thursday February 1st.

Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin have both arrived during the current window, however, there is definitely a need for at least one more player to come in to improve our chances of a top four finish.

Tottenham must have thought that he was more ‘one for the future’ rather than a player who could hit the ground running in what looks to have been a decision to not push forward with the deal once Brentford had agreed a fee for Nusa.

A new midfielder has to be a priority with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp both not at the level required of a club who want to play Champions League football again next season.
