However, while the duo have pulled in viewers, approximately six million, fans aren’t impressed by Barney.
They’ve taken to social media to slam his hosting abilities, despite it being the 26-year-old’s biggest prime time gig to date.
Some BBC viewers even suggested nepotism was the real reason he secured the lucrative job.
One said: “This presenter is an outstanding example of nepotism. How do they get away with this? The only thing that puts me off this show.”
A second posted: “Gladiators nepotism at its finest these two aren’t exactly a models of fitness or sport are they.”
“I love Bradley Walsh but for me Barney isn’t working, he’s not a natural presenter, he looks out if his depth. I feel this is nepotism at it finest,” said a third critic.
While a fourth commented: “I’m sick of seeing Bradley Walsh presenting everything. He is presenting @GladiatorsTV with his son!! How did his son coincidentally get this gig with his dad? I smell nepotism… change the presenters immediately and have a woman too… ridiculous.”
Barney, who also stars in BBC medical drama Casualty as Cam, previously spoke to The Sun about hosting the Gladiators reboot.
He said: “Gladiators is just me and dad on screen doing our thing, because we’re friends first and foremost.
“It’s like with Breaking Dad, we’re just there having a bit of banter and a bit of fun, we’re just hanging out with some presenting between.”
“Now we’re counting down to the first episode, I’m feeling so passionate about bringing this show back to life and to new audiences and to showcasing something spectacular.”
Gladiators airs on BBC One and iPlayer.
