BMW owners are only just discovering a sneaky feature in their motor which could save them precious minutes on their morning commute.

The cheeky trick has been highlighted by a savvy driver who explained how other motorists can take advantage of the clever little feature.

Posting on social media, Ryan shared the tip after his friend put him on to it – and he felt that the world needed to know.

As the video plays, he can be seen talking to camera and then explaining exactly what the trick is – and how to do it.

He said: “This video is for all my BMW people, my friend Logan taught me it the other day and I’ll show you guys what it is.”

The camera then flips to the dashboard while Ryan points at the numbered buttons above the radio display.

He continued: “Basically each of these buttons – that are usually for the radio – can be used to save a pre-set for any of your media screens.

“Number one is my sports display, number two is tyres, number three is my music and number five is my consumption.”

He then reveals that BMW owners just need to go to their screen menu and select “vehicle info” and choose which display they want to add as a pre-set – then hold down the numbered button they want to assign it to for a few seconds while it selects the preferred display.

He added: “I don’t know if you guys knew that, but it’s pretty cool.”

The trick is seemingly made possible by the motor companies ‘iDrive’ operating system – which packs a host of neat features that owners are advised to have a little dig around for next time they’re sat in the driver’s seat.

This hack in particular uses the ‘memory buttons’ which are numbered one-to-nine just below the air-con vents, and are usually confused as only being handy for picking your favourite music player.

But in this video, it’s clear they do a whole lot more than just number your favourite radio stations.

Other BMW owners were quick to comment on the video, thanking him for putting them in-the-know on the features of the car they’ve owned for years.

One user said: “I’ve owned my BMW F3X for almost two years and Ryan, that’s had his BMW M4 for two weeks, is teaching me.”

While a second user said: “Game changer.”

And a third user said: “Did not know this, thank you for your service.”

It’s not the only hidden feature being discovered in by motor-mad enthusiasts, as this car expert reminded drivers of a button inside every car which will de-fog windscreens in a matter of moments.

And, this in-the-know motorist shared several tricks that only “10 per cent” of drivers know about.
