I’m size 22 & accused of fatfishing – men say I use clever camera angles to look skinnier & trick them, it makes me cry

A self-professed ‘fat’ singleton claims a bloke she was chatting to on a dating app accused her of catfishing him when he bumped into her in a coffee shop – quipping that she ‘knew her angles’.

Annie Fraser claims a man she matched with on a dating app spotted her in a local coffee shop before looking her up and down and making a sassy comment.

The 30-year-old who had no idea who he was said his thinly veiled comment accused her of catfishing – despite him immediately recognising her.

This is also despite her dating profile admitting she is “fatter in person”.

The social media manager admits she’s struggled to date as a size 26 woman and claims even her ex was “ashamed” to be seen with her in public.

Shocking photos show messages from matches on dating apps calling Annie a “fat f**k”, “a little too fat”, and even telling her that “fat people have health issues”.

The singleton says she gets messages about her body every day with sleazy matches often saying they only want to sleep with her and not date her.

Annie, who lives in North Carolina, America said: “I’ve always been plus-sized. I use the word ‘fat’ because it’s just how my body is. It’s not an insult to me, it’s just a way to describe my body.

“I was just sitting at a coffee shop that I go to every week, multiple times a week. The baristas know me there.

“This guy, probably in his 30s, came up to me and asked me if my name was Annie. I asked if I knew him because I didn’t recognise him at all.

“He looked me up and down several times and said, ‘we’ve talked [on a dating app] before and wow you really know your angles don’t you’ and then looked me up and down again.

“I was sitting down and I was wearing gym clothes as I had just got back from the gym. I was in leggings and a t-shirt and my hair was up.

“Yes, I didn’t look like my pictures because in my pictures I’m wearing regular clothes and my hair is probably down and in some I’m wearing make-up.

“I’m sure he was saying ‘you don’t look as big as you really are in your pictures’. He was assuming I was catfishing. It was really funny to me because he literally recognised me.

An ex was ashamed to be seen with me so he hid the fact he was dating me

“For a minute it kind of jarred me. I was like ‘am I a catfish?’ For one, I always say I’m a plus-sized person before I meet them. And two, I have full-body pictures on my profile.

“It really sucks that it is our responsibility to lead on with ‘hi I’m a plus-sized person just so you know’. I hate that we feel like we have to do that.

“There are a lot of different reactions. Some of them say they have seen my pictures and they’re into that. I’ve gotten a few unmatches after I’ve said it.”

After being single by choice for many years, Annie says she is dating again, but admits she finds it more difficult as a plus-sized woman.

Annie said: “Dating is definitely more difficult. I’ve gone through phases where I am more afraid to meet people in person because of the reactions I’ve gotten.

Anna has advice for other plus-size people: “Don’t hide who you are because you’re more than what your body looks like.”

“I found out that [an ex] was ashamed to be seen with me so he was hiding me.

“We went out in public probably twice in the few months that we dated. I was very young so I didn’t realise what was happening.

“I’m over it now but it was really terrible for me learning that.

“I’ve been on dating apps on and off since 2013. I get messages every day, if not multiple times a day like, ‘I only want to f**k, I don’t want to date you’.

“One time I got, ‘I haven’t tasted a fat girl since before the pandemic‘. I laugh to deal with this kind of thing. I try to use humour to deal with it because if I didn’t I would break.

“I cry sometimes but these are essentially strangers so they don’t particularly matter to me.

“Everyone who says these particular things to you, they themselves are just self-conscious and they have something missing in their lives that they need to find.

“I don’t want to call them pathetic or sad because they may be a good person in other ways but they really need to figure out how to stop judging particular people just for the way they look.

“Don’t hide who you are because you’re more than what your body looks like.”

Annie said “dating is definitely more difficult” as a self-confessed “fat person”.
