THE Met Office has issued a “danger to life” warning for Brits – with 85mph winds expected to hit tomorrow.

A yellow weather warning is in place for tomorrow – covering the most northern parts of Scotland from 7am to 7pm.

It stretches from the Shetland Isles, right across the northern tip of Scotland and across to the Outer Hebrides.

The warning states: “There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.”

The Met Office has also warned very strong southwesterly winds are predicted to develop, with gusts mostly between 65-75mph although in some places this could hit 85mph at times.

It also adds there is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close and travellers could expect to face longer journey times as road, air and ferry services could be affected.

Then just under that, the Met Office has now issued another yellow weather warning, also for strong winds which is in place from 9am to 5pm tomorrow.

This second warning covers the rest of Scotland and down into northern England, covering Newcastle as well as northern parts of Northern Ireland.

Northern parts of the UK could also see heavy rain on Wednesday, according to the Met Office.

Further south though it will be drier and breezy, but turning increasingly cloudy along with some drizzly outbreaks in the southwest.

For most parts today though it will be largely dry with sunny spells.

England and Wales will see a cloudy start to the day, along with outbreaks of drizzle in the southeast.

That cloud will linger in southeast England in the afternoon but most other parts will be dry along with patches of sunshine.

Driving safely in winter weather

Roads across the UK can be affected by adverse weather, particularly in winter, when snow, ice, heavy rain, and strong winds create difficult driving conditions

Make sure you:

  • Check traffic report before heading off
  • Maintain your vehicle
  • Leave extra time for your journey
  • Consider investing in winter tyres
  • Pay attention to signs on the road

During the night though most parts will be dry and clear but cold, along with a widespread frost.

Southeast England could see some fog patches forming.

As the night wears on, rain will spread into northwest Scotland and winds will strengthen in the north.

Looking further ahead to the tail end of the working week, it will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle although in the east it will be mostly dry.

It is expected to be breezy and fairly mild.
