I’m a mum-of-four & turned my 3 bed council house into a 4 bed – trolls are raging I spent £800 but ‘can’t afford rent’
DO you feel like you’ve outgrown your house and could do with an extra room?
Well, there’s no need to move…because a savvy mum-of-four has revealed the genius way she converted her 3 bed council house into a 4 bed all by herself.
And for anyone wondering how, you’re in luck…because Laura took to TikTok (@laurajordan1985) and posted a video documenting the whole process.
“Turning my 3 bed houses into a 4 bed house,” she says.
In the clip, Laura can be seen utilising the spacious living room and dividing it in half by erecting a wooden frame to form the foundations of the fourth bedroom.
She then shows the walls being constructed and a door being added so that her son has his own privacy – with the total costing her £800.
Finally, she reveals the finished result – and the savvy mum has given her boy the football-themed room of his dreams.
It wasn’t long before the post went viral, racking up over 160k views and hundreds of comments – with very mixed reviews.
While many commended Laura on her clever idea, others were left raging that Laura forked out £800 on the conversion but “can’t afford rent.”
“We have done the same 3 bed into a 5 now. Everyone is happy because they have there own space,” wrote one.
A second commented: “I done this with my open plan living room must say bedroom I have down stairs is more likely smaller then cell lol but needs must so enough room.”
A third noted: “I turned my dining room into my room so the kids have an extra bedroom. it’s worth it for them. Yours looks great.”
Meanwhile, a fourth added: “I’m hoping to do the same things they say there are no 4 beds and yet they let so many 3 bed go that could be 4.”
However, others weren’t quite so impressed and had a few things to say.
“I’m just wondering, how some people can afford for renovation house, and for other things, but they can’t afford for normal rent house,” asked one person.
Hitting back, another defended Laura and penned: “How people are calling you entitled is so baffling….you took a 3 bedroom knowing it wasn’t big enough, because the NEED for housing was greater, and made it work for you’re family….Great Job!”
Laura replied: “I know. This house is massive, and I could see the potential. Even have an internal garage, that fingers crossed will be converted by the council, already sent a surveyor out so looks promising.”
And one more commented: “People are such wingey moaning jealous grassy KARENS WELL DONE hope your wee boy is happy and comfy now I’d do the same!”
Laura responded: “I can’t believe the amount of jealousy. Thank you!”
