CT man dies after striking traffic light pole with Porsche in Stamford

A man was killed following a crash in Stamford Monday when he left the road and struck a pole.

The crash was reported just before 9 p.m. on Jefferson Street at the intersection of Magee Avenue, according to the Stamford Police Department.

Police said it appears a man driving a 2004 Porsche Cayenne east on Jefferson Street continued across the Magee Avenue intersection and failed to negotiate the left curve in the road, striking a city traffic light pole.

The victim, a 45 year-old Stamford resident, suffered critical injuries during the crash and was taken to Stamford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. The man’s identity is being withheld while police notify his family members.

The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating the crash.

“Several factors are being investigated, including whether or not the operator may have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash,” police Sgt. Jeffrey Booth said in a statement Tuesday.
