East Hartford Police Department adds new member; he was previously a New Haven officer

The East Hartford Police Department has added a new officer to it roster.

The department said it “is proud to announce the newest addition” of Officer Nicholas Sevetz.

Sevetz is “a seasoned professional with a background as a former” police officer for New Haven, and “embodies the values of integrity, professionalism, and community engagement that are central to the mission of the East Hartford Police Department,” according to the agency.

Mayor Connor Martin said in a statement that he is pleased to welcome Sevetz to the department to “serve our community.”

“As a CALEA accredited law enforcement agency, East Hartford is proud to provide our new officers with the highest quality training that help them become valuable assets to our community,” said Martin, in the statement by Public Information Officer Marc Caruso.

A swearing-in ceremony was held at the East Hartford Public Safety Complex, with fellow officers, family members, and guests, in attendance, Caruso said in the statement.

Chief Mack Hawkins “expressed confidence in Officer Sevetz’s abilities and highlighted the importance of his role in advancing the department’s commitment to public safety and community partnerships,” noting the dedication Sevetz has “to serving with honor and compassion, traits that are essential to building trust and fostering positive relationships with the residents of East Hartford.”

Sevetz will start his field training immediately, according to the department.
