People called us mad for buying a retro 80s home with fugly carpet – when they see the transformation they’re so jealous
A WOMAN has revealed that people called her and her partner mad for buying a retro 80s home.
However, Rachel McShane has proved the haters wrong as she has now proudly showed off her home’s stunning renovation.
Despite this, Rachel McShane and her partner gave their home the ultimate makeover[/caption]What was once very dated and in need of some TLC, has been given a mega makeover and is now incredibly modern, with bold interior details.
In a clip shared on social media, Rachel gave her followers a before, during and after look at the home’s overhaul.
She explained: “People thought we were mad taking on this 80’s retro home.
“But despite a few wobbles, we were up for the challenge.
“We updated upstairs and then started on downstairs.
“We are now five years in. Outside is still a building site with work to be done.
“But we are proud of what we have achieved so far.
“Sometimes you have to use your imagination and see things differently.”
Rachel then showed off the home’s finished look, as she later confirmed: “When we moved into our 80’s house, it literally hadn’t been decorated since it was built!”
What was once extremely dated, with brown kitchen cupboards and ugly floral carpet throughout the home, including in the bathroom, has now been totally transformed.
Not only is it incredibly modern, but it’s lovely and bright too.
Rachel now has a fabulous walk-in-wardrobe, complete with navy walls and gold handles.
The upstairs bathroom has been given a fresh new feel, with black geometric tiles on the floor, a white bathtub and black accents.
Not only this, but Rachel has opted for herringbone flooring throughout the downstairs, with large black radiators on the walls.
And if that wasn’t enough, the kitchen is now one of dreams, with a large island and stools, perfect for eating food in style.
Rachel’s home is one you’d expect to see in a posh interiors magazine, so it’s no surprise that the TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @renov80shouse, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 39,700 views.
Social media users were stunned at the home’s transformation and many were eager to express this in the comments.
One person said: “Absolutely love it, amazing.”
Another added: “Fair play, it’s chic, cosy and modern. I’m jealous.”
A third commented: “Best home makeover on TT! Congrats, well done!”
Meanwhile, someone else penned: “Well done, it’s beautiful.”
At the same time, another DIY enthusiast wrote: “Gorgeous. You have great taste. Love it.”
Rachel later penned: “Was worth the hard work and sleepless nights!”
She then continued: “It was a big job but we are so glad we did it!”
