Report: Spurs defender is now more likely to leave in the next 48 hours
According to a report from Football.London on the status of various players at Tottenham Hotspur, it is suggested Ryan Sessegnon could well be on his way out of the club before the end of the January transfer window after Ben Davies recovered from his injury quicker than anticipated.
Sessegnon has had a torrid time of it since joining Spurs way back in 2019, with injuries holding back his development time and time again.
The full-back has made just 57 appearances for Spurs in five years (Transfermarkt), at a time when he should have been playing regularly and fulfilling his promise.
After almost a year out, Sessegnon returned to the pitch earlier this month for a seven-minute cameo against Burnley in the FA Cup (Transfermarkt). However, the 23-year-old has been out of action since with another slight knock.
It is thought Sessegnon now has no place in Ange Postecoglou‘s squad and that the club will listen to offers for him this month (The Independent). According to Football Insider, Spurs would agree to a loan move for the player.
Ben Davies returns, Ryan Sessegnon out
It is not yet known if or when any move would occur, but The Daily Mail have reported that a number of teams have shown interest in Sessegnon already.
And now, Football.London have suggested the chances of Sessegnon departing just went up, after Ben Davies recovered from his hamstring injury to give Postecoglou further cover in his squad. The Welshman’s “speedy return” has now accelerated Sessegnon’s potential exit.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is just no future for Sessegnon at Spurs now. His injury record is simply indefensible, and he needs to move on. I worry his career will never get back on track, but it certainly won’t at Tottenham either way. Hopefully, he gets a loan move this month at least so he can start to play regular football.
