I’m a 40-year-old dermatologist – boost collagen and make SPF work harder by applying a $12 Walmart buy twice a day
EVERYTHING from the sun to our beauty routines can contribute to wrinkles.
A 40-year-old skincare expert has shared the main ingredient she recommends for keeping your complexion smooth.
Dermatologist Dr. Shereene Idriss shared the ingredient she swears by for boosting collagen production[/caption]In her video, Dr. Shereene Idriss (@shereeneidriss) explained how a simple product can help boost your collagen production.
“When you’re looking at anti-aging collagen-boosting products, you don’t need to do this before you’ve started aging,” the TikToker explained.
However, if you’ve noticed fine lines on your face, even while resting, it may be time to switch up your beauty routine.
“Vitamin C is a great antioxidant to use, especially in the morning but also at night if you have discoloration,” Dr. Idriss told her followers.
“In the morning it can boost the effects of your sunscreen, it’s not going to replace your sunscreen but it can help boost its effects by making it work harder for you.”
The health professional, who has previously emphasized the importance of SPF protection year-round, broke down the role of Vitamin C in anti-aging efforts.
“It also is a key antioxidant in the production of collagen,” she explained.
According to experts at Cleveland Clinic, collagen accounts for 30% of your body’s protein.
“Collagen’s main role is to provide structure, strength, and support throughout your body,” the professionals said.
This includes providing “elasticity to your skin.”
“You need Vitamin C to make collagen so if you’re looking to help boost your own collagen production, it’s great to use it every single day and that’s why I like using it twice a day,” the doctor said.
Sproos Life broke down the science behind Vitamin C’s role in helping collagen.
Collagen is a protein and all proteins are folded in a particular way in the body.
“If the proteins do not have the correct amino acids or are not folded properly, they do not function as they should,” the experts explained.
“Vitamin C helps to ensure that the correct amino acids are being linked together and that the protein is being folded correctly to make collagen.”
Vitamin C products are available from most stores, including a $12 Olay Regenerist Vitamin C from Walmart.
Dr. Idriss also revealed the anti-aging must-have that she keeps beside her bed.
