Off the Beaten Path: Krause's Homemade Candy

0

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! For four generations, the Krause family has been serving the Capital Region with their homemade candies. NEWS10’s Cassie Hudson takes us behind the scenes of candy production in this week’s Off the Beaten Path.

According to Tom Krause, they sell about 32,000 chocolate-dipped strawberries in two days. Each one hand dipped by an employee.

It all began in 1929, when Alfred Krause brought his knowledge of candy making with him to the U.S. from Germany. He opened stores in Long Island, Queens, and New Jersey. Eventually, Krause’s Homemade Candy opened a location in Saugerties before coming to the Capital Region.

While strawberries and fudge should be purchased close to the holiday, their chocolate can last one to two weeks before eating. Krause's Homemade Candy is located at 1609 Central Avenue in Albany.

In 2022, NEWS10 took you behind-the-scenes of fudge production for National Fudge Day.
