SCDA: Mayfield man found guilty of 20 felonies
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Mayfield man was found guilty of 20 felonies and three misdemeanors, according to the Schenectady County District Attorney, and is accused of having a summer-long criminal relationship with a child under the age of 14 when he was 40 at the time. Joshua Hodgson, 42, was found guilty of rape and more.
According to the Schenectady County District Attorney's Office, all crimes occurred in the summer of 2021 in Schenectady. Hodgson committed physical sexual assaults on the child after grooming them.
Hodgson also had sexually explicit messages and images of his victim. The inappropriate online sexual relationship continued until September 15, 2021, when the child told their family and law enforcement that Hodgson was having a sexual relationship with them.
Hodgson was arrested after the child was interviewed. Law enforcement executed a search warrant at his house. Following his arrest, he was interviewed for nearly five hours.
Charges:
- Second-degree rape (three counts)
- Second-degree criminal sexual act (four counts)
- Second-degree sexual abuse (two counts)
- Endangering the welfare of a child
- Use of a child in a sexual performance as a sexually motivated felony (six counts)
- Possessing a sexual performance by a child (six counts)
- First-degree dissemination of indecent materials to minors
According to the Schenectady County District Attorney's Office, Hodgson will be sentenced soon. He must register as a sex offender and have no contact with the victim based on the issuance of a full order of protection after his possible release from prison.
