Han Goldwyn set to close after 40 years

0

Long-established family-run jewellery manufacturer Han Goldwyn will close this March, upon the retirement of owner and director Brian Craddock and his wife, fellow director, Margaret.

The company, located in the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, began trading in 1980 and manufactured a large and varied range of jewellery in 9ct and 18ct gold, platinum and palladium, set with diamonds and coloured gemstones under the Han Jewellery label.

These were complemented by the Goldwyn Jewellery collection of gold, platinum and palladium pieces set with cubic zirconia and coloured gemstones.

Brian Craddock began his jewellery journey in 1954 when he joined Steele and Dolphin in Vyse Street and trained to be a mounter.

After 13 years at Steele & Dolphin, he became a jobbing jeweller for Eric Milner before establishing his own business, Matthias Jewellery, in 1977.

The name changed to Han Jewellery in 1980, and when his son-in-law, Andrew Cliff, joined the company, a second business, Goldwyn, was established for him to run.

Han-Goldwyn joined the then British Jewellers Association (BJA) and Brian went on to join the board.
