We’ll Look After Him – Daniel Farke Stresses Leeds United Star’s Importance
Daniel Farke has indicated that Jamie Shackleton has a future at Leeds United and stressed that a team need players of his ilk due to what he brings to the team with his attitude.
Shackleton has been a bit part player at Leeds this season and has only featured nine times in the Championship.
He will be out of contract at the end of the season and Leeds are yet to agree on a new deal with the 24-year-old.
There are question marks over his long-term future at Leeds but Farke insisted that Shackleton is a player he is happy to have in his squad because of the versatility he brings to the fore as a performer.
He also insisted that the defender is also a key part of Leeds’ identity and says that players of his ilk are needed in a squad as they are important cogs in the wheel despite not being big stars.
The Leeds manager said in a press conference: “He is best in a Leeds United shirt.
“Jamie is a player I really like and rate, especially because he is so flexible and can play in different positions.
“He has played a lot in the central midfield position.
“For us, he has played, whenever we needed, on the right back and the left back positions.
“Jamie is a player who always gives 100 per cent and identifies with Leeds United.
“He has been with his club for several years and you always want such a player who is not always in the spotlight but important for the team, works really hard, really reliable and is always there whenever and wherever you need him.
“Yes, we will look after Jamie.”
Shackleton is a major doubt for Leeds’ FA Cup game against Plymouth on Tuesday night due to an illness.
