Even With The Changes – Former Leeds United Star Confident On Plymouth Tie

Jon Newsome has insisted that Leeds United can still field a quality starting eleven in the FA Cup against Plymouth Argyle even if Daniel Farke makes a number of changes to the team.

Leeds are in supreme form in the Championship and are on a five-game winning streak in the league.

However, the Whites will have to shift focus to the FA Cup when they take on Plymouth in their fourth round replay on Tuesday night.

Newsome is expecting several changes to the starting eleven at Plymouth in the FA Cup as the Championship games will have to take precedence.

However, the former White feels Leeds can still field a strong starting line-up who could win the game on Tuesday night.

He stressed that given the workload Leeds are set to embrace in the league over the next few weeks, the FA Cup game is their only chance to try out a few squad players.

Newsome said on BBC Radio Leeds: “I think you are going to have a minimum of five changes in all honesty.

“It’s all about the league.

“Even if you make five changes, we are not an understrength squad, we would still have a good starting eleven that you go to Plymouth with and say, I think we can win the game.

“Maybe he will give a couple more people a run-out.

“I don’t want to undervalue the FA Cup but I think the workload is so great over the next few weeks that it has to be at the forefront of your decision-making.”

It remains to be seen whether Leeds field a strong eleven to make sure that they progress in the FA Cup as well with Farke having insisted he wants a run in the competition.
