Albany Airport expansion continues with rotunda demolition

0

ALBANY COUNTY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Anyone traveling through Albany International Airport Monday may have seen construction crews at work demolishing a rotunda structure. This is part of an ongoing expansion project.

"It was just a couple weeks ago that we took the pedestrian bridge down," explained Steve Smith, the airport's Director of Communications. "The reason for that is we are building an exciting addition to the main terminal here at the airport."

Smith described Monday's demolition as another tangible milestone in the project.

The funding for this project was secured through the Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition, and the passage of an infrastructure bill in Congress.

Sections of the sidewalk in front of the terminal will be closed for construction activities, but according to Smith, it shouldn’t cause any major headaches for travelers.

"With construction, there are obviously some disruptions," Smith said, "but we are asking people to give themselves a little bit extra time; arrive two hours before your scheduled departure.”

The Albany International Airport website has a breakdown of the expansion project timeline.
