Chaudhary Charan Singh was influenced by Swami Dayanand Saraswati and his teachings of Arya Samaj. He was also inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Former prime ministers P V Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh, along with agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan, were honored with the Bharat Ratna by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
