Hillsboro police: 12-year-old boy on bike hit, killed in crash

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 12-year-old boy on a bike died in a crash late Saturday afternoon in Hillsboro, officials said.

The crash around 4:10 p.m. near Southeast 10th Avenue and Baseline Street involved a youth and a car, a spokesperson for the Hillsboro Police Department said. The boy died as a result of the collision.

Police said the family of was notified. His parents told KOIN 6 News the youth's name was Joseph Brausen.

"He was a good kid. He was very athletic, loved playing basketball," his father told KOIN 6 News. "He was a sweet kid, he was a sweetheart, he was a very happy kid, very outgoing. Loved camping, loved swimming, loved his dog, very animal loving."

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests were made at this time.

The incident is an active and ongoing investigation involving both the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team and the Hillsboro police.

"All factors are being considered by the investigators and I’m sure you know CART investigations are very thorough and take time," Hillsboro PD spokesperson Sgt. Aaron McCarver said in a statement to KOIN 6 News.
