IND vs ENG: Suryakumar Yadav’s Message That Encouraged Sarfaraz’s Father To Attend His Son’s Debut

If it hadn’t been for India batsman Suryakumar Yadav, Sarfaraz Khan’s father would not have been present to watch his son receive the coveted Test cap from Anil Kumble. Naushad Khan and Sarfaraz’s wife were in attendance on day one of India’s third Test against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium. Naushad cried when he saw his son receive the India hat. Sarfaraz scored 62 on his debut.

However, Naushad needed coaxing to make up his mind, and Suryakumar played an important role in that.

Naushad claimed on the sidelines of the game that Suryakumar’s message persuaded him to fly to Rajkot.

“Initially, I thought I wouldn’t come as that would put Sarfaraz in some kind of pressure, and apart from that I also had a bit of a cold. But Surya’s message almost made me melt,” he said.

Naushad read out the message that came from India’s best T20 batter Surya Kumar Yadav.

“I do understand your emotions. But trust me, when I made my Test debut (last year in March against Australia in Nagpur) and was receiving my Test cap, my father and mother were just behind.

“And that moment was something beyond special. These moments don’t come too often. So I would suggest that you must go,” those were the words from Suryakumar.

After getting the message Sarfaraz Khan’s father made arrangements to travel

“After this message from Surya, I couldn’t stop myself from coming. Just took a pill and came here yesterday,” he said.
